Andrea Maciel is a director, teacher, dancer and researcher with 25 years of practice in physical theatre training for dancers and actors. She works mainly with urban performance, with emphasis on the relationships between body and memory, choreography and architecture, performance and politics. Andrea is a Lecturer for the BA (Hons) in Drama Contemporary Theatre at the University of Manchester Metropolitan University , worked as a visiting lecturer at the University of Bristol, where she concluded her post doctorate on contemporary performance and public spaces. She was a Lecturer in Movement and Contemporary Theatre at the Department of Theatre – PUC-RIO and University of the City – Brazil for over a decade and has taught and conducted several research groups in the fields of Dance and Performance, supervising undergraduate and postgraduate students at New York University, University of Bristol, University of Arts of London, Queen Mary University of London, and the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro - Brazil. She has studied and worked with master-teachers from all over the world including François Kan (Pontedera Theatre), Renato Ferracini (Lume Theatre), Chico Pelúcio (Grupo Galpão), Gwen Welliver (Trisha Brown Company), Guillermo Gomez Peña (La Pocha Nostra) and Eugenio Barba (Odin Teatret). Dr. Maciel is a core research member of the Cross Pollination Platform, a peripatetic laboratory for the dialogue in between theatrical practices and a resident group at Nordisk Teaterlaboratorium (Denmark). She is also co-founder and Artistic Director of the NGO Intercultural Roots Arts for Health & Arts for Social Change.
