Shaunak Samvatsar is an educator, illustrator, cartoonist, writer and film designer with over 15 years of work in print, digital and film media. As a Creative Producer, Writer, Visual Designer, and Storyboard Artist, Shaunak excels in translating scripts and content into visually compelling formats. His expertise spans across storyboarding, UI design, motion graphics, and scriptwriting. Shaunak has successfully led large creative teams and produced high-quality films and TV shows, demonstrating his strong project management and problem-solving skills.
He published political cartoons under “Breadcrumbs”. He held a solo exhibition of the same in Feb 2020 at IIC Cartoon Gallery, Bengaluru, India. His cartoon series “What on Earth!” with the NGO CEEW is at an intersection of environment, policy and technology.
As a writer/illustrator Shaunak has published his semi-biographical “Research Ramblings” in Vérité 01 and “Apna Godot Aayega” in Vérité 03 graphic anthologies published by Comix India. His gag comic series “Phuskuman” was published in Tinkle comics.
He holds Masters in Animation design at IDC, IIT Bombay. His first film as an animatics artist and assistant producer “Tripura-The Three Cities of Maya” was a pathbreaking original film in Indian animation. He further worked on the gag comedy series “Pakdam Pakdai” as a storyboard artist, designer & producer.
He was the lead creative on the 3D animated series “Sheikh Chilli and Friends” and “Yali” as a writer, storyboard lead and producer.Shaunak has made significant contributions to the media industry, including the conceptualization and launch of the "Sutradhar" app, which brought Indian mythological content to the digital age, achieving over 500k downloads. He developed AV content, podcasts and games based on mythology.
As an educator Shaunak was the Head of Department of Animation and Film Design at Symbiosis Institute of Design, Pune. He is a visiting faculty at National Institute of Design, Ahmedabad.
