Sena Atsugah is currently a Fulbright student at Temple University in Philadelphia pursuing a PhD in dance, having lectured at the University of Ghana, School of Performing Arts for four years. She obtained her Bachelor and Master of Fine Arts degrees from the University of Ghana in 2008 and 2015 respectively. In other to gain more insight in contemporary dance, she took part in the numerous editions of the project Engagement Feminine at CDC - La Termitiere in Ouagadougou, Burkina – Faso. Fortunately, she was part of the four ladies selected for a residency for the project dans un s’y mettre, a quartet and Ecoute ma musique, a solo both choreographed by the company Auguste – Bienvenue which were both performed in Ouagadougou and Bobo-Dioulasso as well as in Bordeaux in France and in Yale University in the United States. Sena has been part of numerous workshops, conferences, dance festivals and performances in Africa, Europe and in America. She is the artistic director of the Ti-fali organization and the originator of the Shemotion project in Ghana. Her current interest and research area includes exploring the role of women in indigenous Ghanaian religious/ritual dance forms for contemporary African dance creations.
