In my current teaching position, I wholeheartedly embrace cultural exchange and diversity, essential for creating a supportive learning atmosphere for students from diverse backgrounds. An example is when I designed and delivered an enrichment activity where students demonstrated their cooking skills alongside their English language skills. During the festive season, our ESOL Level 1 class had a unique cooking session that blended fun with valuable learning experiences. Students worked in teams to prepare traditional Christmas dishes, fostering collaboration and effective communication. This activity enhanced their functional skills, such as following recipes, measuring ingredients, and understanding cooking terminology. Managing their time efficiently to complete the dishes within the class period promoted better organisational skills. Students also expanded their cultural knowledge and language skills by discussing holiday traditions and sharing recipes from their cultures.
