About

I believe the art of puppetry including object performance should not be limited to traditional design nor infantile application, nor rules of presentation. I approach the construction of the puppet as a sculptural object and my creation process analyses narrative through the free, playful exploration. The puppet or object is permitted to act and become with the least inhibition.

My practice currently explores how objects and puppets can encourage people to build up socio-emotional resilience and be able to use play to counter against stressful life experiences from the past and gain emotional tools for coping with the future. I am also experimenting with ever more anti-anthropocentric work showcasing water, air, and fire, examining the metaphysics of object performance inspired by the work of Dr Paulette Richards.

After training in theatre design, I have worked in places as diverse as Kazakhstan, Poland and India performing, constructing, and designing sets and costumes, creating posters and running community projects. I have played clarinet in marching bands in the great "Marchas" of Portugal, studied yoga in India and cycled around the Iberian coast, I have had the privilege to work with Punjabi school children, inner London youths and centurions from villages who only 30 years ago connected to the national grid. All these life experiences and more enrich my work and sustain my inspiration and my dedication to theatre as a relevant, worthwhile, and exciting art form.
